Mother Nature cooperates!!

YEA!!!  Mother Nature is cooperating with me!!  we had our lawn mowed, raked the thatch out, and reseeded this week.  i am supposed to water it regularly, so i was out this morning, faithfully, w/the hose, watering by hand sprinkler the areas that were often neglected by the sprinkler this summer.  then, after i did the hard-to-reach spots i hooked the sprinkler up for larger areas and the dark clouds i was watching finally starting releasing their load of moisture!!!  YEA!!  rain water is so much better than hose water anyday!!  so Wrigley, who sat quietly in front of the front door, except when the neighbor walked by w/her two labs, and i went out in the sprinkling rain and pulled/wound the hose up!  she is such a great help to me outside!! NOT
but i can't leave her in the house w/gpa because she barks a high pitch squeal that give gpa a headache!! she's such a 'gma's girl'!!

so now, i can stay in and knit today!!  i finished the little baby blue designer 'monkey' socks and spiral hat for susan's gift.  we stay w/Young kids tonight so i can take them over then along with henry's bday card.

gpa started walking home from church yesterday while i was knitting @ homeEc w/cindy...i picked him up quite a distance from church...good exercise for him...1/2 hr walk! i don't think he's going to walk today! it's actually really chilly, esp w/rain!!  i had to wear a jacket while i was watering the lawn! YEA! i love this cool weather...i cannot stand hot, humid summer weather ;-(   i'll take winter anyday over summer... gentle snow falling, anything baking in the oven, fireplace on, my java, and knitting something lacey beside the window's view! what could be better?!!!  right now, our backyard is the Hickory Hill Park and the trees are beginning to change...even the old, somewhat ugly tree is looking dramatically different...it will become gorgeous soon!!  it's odd shape resembles one you think of on a Halloween scene!!

dog house ...

oh no!  wrigley & i are in the 5HH dog house ...:o(     i went to the grocery store leaving wrigley to watch over g'pa @ his computer.  i 'dog-proofed' the house (shut all the doors) but forgot to see that my baby knitting projects were put up on the table... she proudly drug into the office my knitting, trailing a long line of yarn behind her!  alas, that sent g'pa into a tizzy!!  he scolded her and she pee'd for him in his office!!!

rainy day antics!!

hi!  it's a cold, windy, rainy day here in Hawkeye country!! an absolutely GREAT day for knitting!!  if i ever get off this computer i'll return to my 'baby Monkey' socks and 'twist rib' baby hat i'm making for susan's (my stepdaughter) friend who just had a baby boy. one sock is finished, but 3-6 mo size looks huge!

my shihTzu, Wrigley, just brought me a throw pillow from across the great room that is as big as she is!!  if i could have frozen a moment in time, that would have been it!  with her little tail waggin' and rearend wiggle as she was pushing the pillow across the tile floor!!  just a priceless moment in my memory now!! of course, this is all because g'pa just got home and she gets so excited!  this morning she literally 'drug' him by the corner of his robe thru the house...she is reverting to her olde 'puppy' play!!  and she is a strong dog, just having reached her 1st birthday July 28!  we went for a walk last night and just made it back to the house before the menacing clouds let loose with the rain!  she's a great walker...brisk, fast pace that i have to keep up with!!

i just emailed a few classmates from my graduating class that were included in the set of pics sent to me from the reunion this summer that i could not attend.  i only recognized a FEW folks, many more were 'strangers' to me!! it will be great to renew a few friendships from my hometown.  i hope a few of them are on Facebook too.

i am on a yarn budget this year...knitting from my stash w/o buying new yarn.  i'm doing pretty well at getting my baskets of yarn condensed.  i finished a baby blanket out of Wiggles (white acrylic with pastel thread loops throughout).  the neighbor down the street has a nanny who i've met recently while she waits for the school bus to drop off her 2nd child she is nanny to.  her last day was last friday as she is expecting her 1st child this winter!!  so i ran into the house and grabbed the blanket and it was her 1st baby blanket gift!!  it felt good to give!!

i finished painting two steel doors in the garage.  the one into the house shows all the brush strokes, so may need some touchup.  i was hurrying too much to get done... ;-(

... a simple knitting blog ...

~it is a simple thing...black & gold since i live in "HAWKEYE" country!

~i am a daily visitor to www.Ravelry.com/lbquilts and www.Facebook.com/LindaMarieShultz       ~i had a blog on my mchsi email before we moved, but cannot access the dashboard to keep it going, so started this new one!  you can still view it: http://www.heartofthehawkeyes.blogspot.com/  called ~ g'ma's grapevine ~

~i knit everywhere ... in public, in private, and take it with me always! it's so much more travel-friendly than my quilting was.  i am obsessed with lace: shawls/stoles, socks, curtains, sweaters(baby & adult), hats/scarves are some of my projects. i also love fairisle(2/multi-color) Christmas stockings...i made one for each of my 6 g'kids several years ago.

~my obsession with knitting is shared with my knitting budde, CINDY, whom i try to knit with at least once a week during her lunchhour.  it's handy that there is a little yarn shop, Home Ec, just a block away from her office!!! she is my 'bkff' ~ best knitting friend forever!!

~my little 4-legged companion, Wrigley (a brown, white, black shihTzu) sits with me while i knit.  since i am retired from band-directing(33 yrs) i have a LOT more time to spend on my obsession!

~my husband, TERRY, is really understanding, but i doubt he really understands this obsession with creating something artistic, the challenge of figuring out a lace pattern, the perseverence it takes from beginning to end of a project, the joy of gift-giving, & lastly, that i like to keep my hands busy!!  (i used to play instruments along with all my band lessons when i taught!)  since terry is a avid sports-minded retiree from teaching/coaching/principaling we watch a LOT of sports!  GREAT KNITTING TIME!!!
